My Story
Author Emilia Dodig gets ideas for her stories from everyday things going on around her. A conversation with her kids about the dating process of today got her thinking that it’s not so different from other periods in time, leading her to pen a funny rhyming tale for children about what a medieval dating scene might look like. In her new picture book, A Perfect Match, three knights vie for the hand in marriage of Princess May with hilarious consequences.
Emilia believes that a great book is one with a relatable plot and characters. She hopes her young readers come away from her stories with a sense of empowerment and self-confidence about the choices they make and that this stays with them long after the book is closed.
Emilia has several additional children’s stories in the works and for which she has received loving support from her family. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys reading, cooking, and going to museums while traveling. Born in Bosnia, Emilia lived in several different countries during the war before immigrating to Canada in 1997. She currently lives in Ottawa with her husband and their dog, Tonka.
